My First Review, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Drake's Reviews is officially started, this blog will review Movies and Videogames. If you have a request for a specific new movie or video game feel free to message me about it. Here is my first review! Enjoy!

As you can see by the trailer, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is an alternate take on the life of the 16th President of the USA. In the movie Abraham Lincoln is played by actor Benjamin Walker who some may recognize the role of Harlon Brock in the movie "Flags of Our Fathers." Walker does and impressive job on his portrayal of Lincoln, and once he gains the beard, top hat and wrinkles he looks very much like our former President. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter manages to merge vampires into the civil war of the US in such a good way that it becomes believable. It takes a few liberties with the vampire myth, such as vampires being able to be out in plain daylight, and vampires not being able to kill each other due to the curse placed upon them by God. The movie doesn't skimp on the action, but does it in such a fast way that it becomes forgettable pretty soon after each scene. It also suffers from a lack of memorable vampire characters even the main villains have no memorable parts and die rather quickly without putting much of a fight. One vampire did stand out but in order to keep spoilers out of my review I will leave his name out. Plot twists in this movie are very good though, so good in fact that they make this "ok" movie a "good" movie. Those who have read the book however, will notice some big differences from the book to the movie, differences that should have not happened as they take away a lot for the story, one of them being the removal of Edgar Allan Poe from the movie. While the movie has been criticized as being uninteresting and fake, it must be taken into account that vampires are indeed fake creature but this doesn't mean they don't look great on the screen, some reviewers take it too seriously and forget to enjoy the imaginary side of movies which is why many people go see them in the first place. The 3D effects in the movie are nothing noteworthy and is probably best to watch the movie in a 2D format. This movie while not exactly a blockbuster is a title that is worth watching.
